Many say that once you become a part of IRRI, you never really leave. This becomes especially true this week for former IRRI staff who shall return to headquarters for the first reunion of the Association of Former IRRI Employees (AFIRE). The event will be hosted by the Institute through the Partnerships Office and will be held on Friday, 22 November 2013.
More than 150 AFIRE members have already registered for the event. The program will include a welcome address by V. Bruce J. Tolentino, deputy director general for communication and partnerships.
Director General Robert Zeigler will give an inspirational message and a presentation on IRRI's current research activities and significant milestones. Mae Mendoza, AFIRE president, and Willy Hererra, immediate past president, will also give messages on behalf of the members.
After a luncheon, attendees will go on a field tour, view an exhibit of highlights of IRRI’s work, have an open discussion.
All IRRI staff members are encouraged to also welcome the Institute’s former employees when they go and visit their former units after the formal program..
For more information about the homecoming, please contact the members of the steering committee for the event: Jojo Lapitan, Mae Mendoza, and Willy Herrera, with Manny Alejar, Rhoda Lantin, Bill Barsana, and Sylvia Avance as lead persons for reunion activities.
