Chiang Mai, Thailand — 27 November 2024. Chiang Mai University hosted the Thailand Agricultural Expo 2024 to celebrate its 60th anniversary. The university also marked the 2024 National Agriculture Day at the Mae Hia Agricultural Research, Demonstration, and Training Center on this occasion.
The event showcased exhibitions and innovations in agriculture, including the rice sector, emphasizing precision agriculture. This includes environmental management using Smart Farm technologies, Internet of Things (IoT), drones, robots, and other agricultural machinery, as well as emission reduction methodologies.
Represented by Thanach Songmethakrit, the International Rice Research Institute participated in the event by exhibiting its greenhouse gas management technologies designed to measure and reduce emissions in rice fields. The exhibition also featured advanced techniques for managing rice straw and stubble for reutilization in bioenergy production, composting, and fertilization. It highlighted contributions from the era of King Rama IX to Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's visits to IRRI.
Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat (Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives) and Mr. Akkara Prompha (Deputy Minister) visited the IRRI exhibition space, where they explored the applicability of the emission measurement chamber and reflected on IRRI’s longstanding collaboration with Thailand, including the Royal Family's support for agricultural development.
As the event underscored Thailand's commitment to promoting sustainable farming, IRRI too emphasized advancing a circular agricultural economy to support modern agriculture, carbon neutrality for climate change mitigation, and food security in rice production.
