Dr. Hans Bhardwaj, Rice Breeding Innovation Platform Leader of the International Rice Research Institute, announces the joining of Dr. Roberto Fritsche-Neto as the new head of Breeding Analytics and Data Management.
Dr. Fritsche-Neto obtained his Ph.D. in Genetics and Plant Breeding from the Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil in 2011 and started his career as a potato breeder in EMBRAPA, Brazil. He did a postdoc with Dr. Jean-Luc Janninck at Cornell University (2016-2017) and has worked with leading scientists like Dr. Mark Cooper at Queensland University, Australia and Dr. Rex Bernardo at University of Minnesota, USA.
He comes most recently from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, where he led a research team developing applications of statistics and biometrics to phenotypic analysis, genomic selection, drone phenotyping, among others to improve breeding programs for corn.
“Roberto will fill a critical role in leading the biometrics, data management, and software development teams, and work to develop innovative solutions to biometrics challenges in breeding,” Dr. Bhardwaj said.Breeding Analytics and Data Management is under the Breeding Innovations & Informatics cluster headed by Dr. Damien Platten.
