Former IRRI Executive Officer passed away

Faustino "Boy" M. Salacup (b. 1932), former Executive Officer, Comptroller, Treasurer, and Director for Protocol and Liaison of the International Rice Research Research Institute (IRRI), passed away on December 22, 2019. He is regarded as one of the Institute's pioneers, having joined in January 1961.

Along with other members of the welcoming delegation, Faustino “Boy” Salacup greets former President Corazon Aquino of the Republic of the Philippines during her visit to the IRRI campus in 1986.


During his early years at IRRI, Faustino developed an accounting and bookkeeping system that eventually became a model for several research organizations in the region, including the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) and the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT).

He is survived by his wife Avelina (Bing), children Arit, Doy, Bogs, including daughter Maria Socorro "Achu" Arboleda, Marketing Manager, IRRI Education, and his grandchildren.
