IRRI partnership in Uttar Pradesh to accelerate seed production and dissemination of new varieties

(UTTAR PRADESH, India,  8 August) - Uttar Pradesh Beej Nigam and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) formed a partnership to expedite the production and distribution of high-yielding, climate-smart, and specialty rice varieties to bolster rice farming and productivity in the state.

Rice 2.0: Towards Transforming Rice Cultivation in Uttar Pradesh

The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI)- South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC) organized a capacity development activity on 5 July to promote a sustainable rice production system in India. Farmers and extension workers from Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh participated in an orientation which focused on the best agronomic management practices and digital tools.

IRRI supports Uttar Pradesh, India in popularizing Kalanamak rice variety


Kalanamak rice variety has been chosen by the Siddharthnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, India for the “One District One Product (ODOP)” scheme under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan campaign. This is in line with the government-level action plan aimed at improving rice productivity and better aroma retention. The rice variety also has a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Siddharthnagar district and 10 more districts around Siddharthnagar with similar agro-climatic conditionsーGorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Santkabirnagar, Basti, Bahraich, Balrampur, Gonda, and Shravasti.

IRRI SARC hosts first technology training to evaluate nutritional properties of food grain



4 December, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh - IRRI’s strengthened regional presence accelerates the development of higher-yielding, healthier, and stress tolerant rice varieties that appeal to local market preferences and secure a higher premium for farmers.

IRRI-South Asia Regional Centre (IRRI-SARC) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India  held its first technology training on advanced technologies to evaluate specific nutritional properties of food grain and food products.
