RCM Indonesia Project Team holds partnership meetings, conducts field visits

The Rice Crop Manager (RCM) Indonesia Project funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) of the Republic of Korea aims to increase the incomes and yields of Indonesian rice farmers and contribute to the Indonesian government's goals for rural prosperity, food security, environmental sustainability and climate mitigation and adaptation through the development and dissemination of RCM.

RCM locally known as Layanan Konsultansi Padi (LKP) was initially developed in 2015 at a small-scale. It provides field-specific nutrient management recommendations adapted from the principles and algorithms of the Site-Specific Nutrient Management approach. Through the RCM Indonesia Project, LKP Indonesia is being upgraded and will be disseminated to wider rice areas to benefit more farmers.

The RCM Indonesia Project team held partnership meetings from 22-25 May 2023. The team met with Prof. Fadjry Jufry, Badan Standardisasi Instrumen Pertanian (BSIP) Director General, Dr. Priatna Sasmita, Pusat Standardisasi Instrumen Tanaman Pangan (PSITP) Director, Dr. Nuning Argo Subekti, PSITP lead coordinator for the RCM Indonesia project and the rest of the PSITP team for in-person project updates. These include the implementation of major activities including upgradation field trials, capacity building and dissemination, landscape assessment, and monitoring, evaluation and learning.

The team also met with Viamo, another key partner from the private sector, to discuss updates on the RCM dissemination pathways. Visits to the Indonesian Soil Research Institute and Indonesian Agroclimate and Hydrology Research Institute were also held to explore potential collaboration. Field visits were also conducted in Indramayu District and the Indonesia Center for Rice Instrument Standard Testing in Sukamandi, West Java where the on-farm and on-station field experiments will soon begin.

New team members who will be assigned in the various project sites to facilitate project implementation were also welcomed by the RCM Indonesia Project team.
