Bayer Delegation visits ISARC




Varanasi, 22 May - A delegation from Bayer Crop Science led by Dr. Amit Trikha, Global Crop Strategy Lead, and Dr. Sangeeta Mendiratta, Lead Government Affairs met with the IRRI team at IRRI South Asia Regional Centre (ISARC), Varanasi.

Dr. Sudhanshu Singh, ISARC Director shared ISARC’s commitments and dedicated efforts towards improving the prosperity of the farming community, besides reducing the environmental footprints through viable partnerships.

Impressed with the state-of-the-art facilities at ISARC, Dr. Trikha expressed his keen interests in collaborating and working together with the IRRI on specific areas of research and development in the rice sector.



Dr. Virender Kumar, Deputy Lead, Sustainable Impact Platform and Global Coordinator, Direct-Seeded Rice Consortium (DSRC), IRRI, Philippines interacted with the team virtually and discussed on innovating, catalyzing and upscaling the mechanized and precise DSR in targeted geographies for building resilience, and enhancing profitability of rice-based systems.

Mr. Suhas Joshi, Head Sustainability and Business Stewardship, South Asia highlighted the progress with the regenerative farming project, where IRRI would provide technical support for the execution of the project activities towards disseminating sustainable agricultural practices aligned with carbon farming.



Bayer signed a letter of intent (LOI) with the IRRI and CSISA to promote potential rice hybrids along with cutting-edge technologies for DSR through participatory experimentation, on-farm demonstrations, farmers’ sensitization, and evidence generation in the states of Bihar, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha.

Dr. Panneerselvam Peramaiyan discussed adaptive trials, area expansion, evidence collection from the practicing farmers, and scaling approaches for faster adoption of DSR technologies. Other delegates from Bayer, Dr. Mayank Yadav, Pankaj Sharma, Sreenivash, and Rajvir Singh Rathi also interacted with the IRRI team.
