Emergency services training for local community held

Another batch of the Neighborhood Emergency Services Team (NEST) training was held for residents of barangays Calo, Maitim, and Puypuy of Bay, Laguna, on 4-8 November 2013.

NEST teaches risk-reduction and disaster preparedness and management, and the recently held one is the last for 2013. It is one of IRRI's community partnership activities and encourages the support of the residents of the areas around IRRI for the Institute’s disaster risk management and response. NEST teams constantly monitor their areas of responsibility and share their reports to IRRI's security and safety teams during fire, typhoon, flooding, medical emergencies, and incidents that pose a threat to peace and order.

NEST is a partnership of IRRI with the United Parcel Services and the Emergency Research Center. The course is managed by IRRI’s Safety and Security Services and the Partnerships Office.
